Books by Roy Clews, writing as Sara FraserDuring a chance encounter with Roy Clews, he happened to mention that he had an attic full of his books. I persuaded him to bring them to Redditch for local people to buy. Roy Clews was Redditch’s ‘bad boy’, and he used the pseudonym Sara Fraser because, when he first started writing in the 1970s, he was wanted by the French Foreign Legion for desertion and by the British police for his association with the IRA. Local folk were amazed when he became a famous author. All has now been forgiven and he lives quietly in Wales. His books are about life in the rough, tough 1800s, and are usually set in 1830’s Redditch. He writes for the American market (through Severn House) where books about Tom, the first Redditch policeman, are very popular. Among the paperbacks he has passed to me are many featuring the early Redditch heroine, Tildy. They include Young Jethro, Tildy Nursing Woman, Tildy the Gang Woman, Tildy Widow Woman and Tildy Invincible Woman. Other titles are The Healing Nightfall, The Bitter Dawning, The Kings Bounty, The Imperialists, The Dreamers, The Harsh Noontide, The Sisterhood and Montague’s Whore. Prices on the internet vary from £1 to £87! so we have decided to charge £5 per book, plus postage. All takings go directly to Roy. To order please contact us or send us an order form. |
